Why the Detroit Pistons Won’t Win the NBA Championship

Posted by Noah Roush on April 30, 2009

The Detroit Pistons will not win this year’s NBA Championship for many reasons.  First of all, they are already down 4-0 in their playoff series with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Second of all, the team only accomplished a 39-43 record, playing the worst they have in recent years.  The Pistons are a team on the decline, while the rest of the NBA gets better.

They have suffered from the loss of a good head coach (Flip Saunders) and lost many key players (Ben Wallace, Chauncey Billups).  They have also suffered from bad trades (Chauncey Billups traded for Allen Iverson).

The Pistons’ worst enemy is themselves, and natural aging.  Many of their players are getting old and most of their younger back-ups are just not not that good.

The Pistons will not win the NBA Championship becuase the player they traded one of their best players for is on the bench, not to return until next season.  Plus, they are just really old and not very good anymore.

The LA Lakers will Win the NBA Championship

Posted by Noah Roush on April 30, 2009

The Los Angeles Lakers have been a powerhouse team for the past 2 seasons, even making it to the NBA championship last season.  Though they failed to clinch the title last year, the Lakers were back at the top of the league this year winning 65 games.

They have many of the assets needed to win “the big one”, including a good offense and good defense (when they choose to play defense).  They also have the second best, if not best star player in the league, Kobe Bryant who can drop 40 points on any team, anytime.

The only knock against the Lakers is their lack of depth.  Though it is relatively unnoticable thanks to their starters skill, the Lakers back-ups leave much to be desired, as many of them are young, unpolished players.

The Los Angeles Lakers will win the NBA Championship this year because they have two great big men, the best (or second best) player in the game, and a strong offensive and defensive game.

Why the Cavaliers WILL Win the NBA Championship

Posted by Noah Roush on April 30, 2009

The Cleveland Cavaliers have all of the necessary assets to win an NBA championship this year.  They have a strong offense and an almost impenetrable defense.  They have an elite star player in Lebron James, who can score, pass, and play defense (all at the same time!)

Not only do the Cavs have a great player in Lebron James, they also have a deep roster behind him filled with relatively talented players, who when put together on a team can do really well.

Unlike other teams such as the San Antonio Spurs and Boston Celtics, the players on the Cavaliers are also relatively young, making them more athletic and giving them more stamina.  Because the players tire less easily they can play on both ends of the court instead of one.

The Cavaliers will when this year’s NBA championship with their their team, because they are young and they play well at both ends of the court.  Also, they are under pressure to win it this year since many players  (Lebron James mainly) could be leaving next year.
